Summer Art Camp for Children

The Huntingdon County Arts Council is holding a Summer Art Camp for Children.

Juniata Valley art teacher Olivia Gennaro and/or Southern Huntingdon art teacher Andrea Darby are teaching the classes.

The camp offers two sessions each day (sold separately), with different topics in each. Class sessions are two hours each, Monday through Thursday.

Class size is limited to 15 students per session.

Morning sessions will run 9-11, with afternoon sessions 12-2.

Students may sign up for one session or both. If a student signs up for both sessions, they will be asked to bring a bagged lunch.
They will have time to socialize, create extra artwork on their own, play games, and/or watch a movie during their lunch hour.

Each weekly session is $85.
Scholarships are available on a first-come, first-served basis by contacting info@huntingdoncountyarts.com.

The Summer Arts Camp will be held at the Huntingdon County Arts Center (the former 12th Street Methodist Church), 313 12th Street, Huntingdon.

Age ranges are suggested age ranges. However, children outside of the age range can be accommodated.

For ages 5-8
Painting with Olivia Gennaro – Let’s experiment together with paints! We will work with watercolors, tempera, tempera cakes, and acrylic to learn the diverse medium and techniques of painting. Students will leave learning new and traditional painting skills and techniques. We will leave understanding how to push the boundaries and limits of paint!

June 19-22
12-2 pm
For ages 5-8
Portraiture with Andrea Darby – Ever struggling drawing people? Come learn tips, tricks and skills on drawing facial features and how to get those tricky skin tones. We will use multiple media to explore traditional and new techniques on portraiture.

June 26-29
9-11 am
For ages 9-12

We will work together to learn techniques on drawing from real life as well as creating your own animations/characters. Get ready to use pencils, oil pastels, markers and more to create your original works of art.

For ages 5-8
Trees with Andrea Darby – Leaves, bark, branches, lighting…. Trees are so unique and complex! Let’s take a look at trees and learn how to recreate these organic beauties. You will use multiple medias and techniques to draw those impressionist and realistic trees.

Contrast with Susan Wentzel – Do you ever wonder how to create that value and shading to create a drawing that looks life like? This class on contrast is for you! Focusing on contrast, value, and shading we will create work that shows your newly learned art skills.

For ages 9-12

At the Huntingdon County Arts Center, we offer seven different weeks of summer art camp for kids, for 9- to 12-year-olds. The classes are from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday through Thursday, with a different theme each week. The cost for each weekly session is $90.
