Allegria String Quartet Concert Sunday, August 13

Category:Concerts

The Allegria String Quartet will perform at the Huntingdon County Arts Center on Sunday, August 13 at 2 p.m. Professional musicians from central Pennsylvania founded the chamber music group in 2006. Since then, they have risen to prominence, not only in our region but nationally as well. Much in demand, members of the quartet have performed with Grammy winning artists like Billy Childs, Josh Groban, Sarah Brightman, and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra,

The Quartet’s repertoire includes classical music as well as many contemporary and popular tunes. They perform frequently in our region, including recent appearances with the PennsWoods Festival Orchestra, the Pennsylvania Chamber Orchestra, and the Williamsport Symphony Orchestra.

The group’s members are enthusiastic teachers who enjoy sharing their love of music with new listeners of all ages. In this spirit, they have performed outreach concerts at a variety of venues, such as libraries, parks, museums, hospitals, colleges, senior communities, cafes, and distilleries.

For those who are curious, “allegria” means “cheerfulness” in Italian. The name is also similar to “allegro,” a term given to lively music played at a brisk tempo. The name of the group captures the upbeat mood of their performances.

The Huntingdon program will include works by some of the most well known European composers: Mozart, Dvořák, and Beethoven. The group also will perform two classic Cole Porter songs, “I’ve got you Under My Skin” and “It’s Alright with Me,” along with a selection of Nordic folk tunes.

The group’s lineup includes Jonathan Dexter (cello), Sally Williams Minnich (violin), Mark Minnich (violin), and John Roxburgh (viola). All reside and work in the State College area.

The Huntingdon County Arts Center is located at 313 12th Street in Huntingdon. Tickets for the concert are available online at huntingdoncountyarts.com.
Tickets also can be purchased at the Arts Center during exhibition hours or at the door.
