Category:Events

A free Celebration of the Arts will be held on Saturday, June 14, from 10 am to 4 pm, at the Huntingdon County Arts Center at 313 12th Street in Huntingdon. The family-fun open house event celebrates the arts by featuring hands-on art projects, demonstrations, and live performances throughout the day, all geared to young and old alike.

This is the Arts Council’s 4th Celebration of the Arts. The day includes face painting and hands-on art activities, including rock painting, knitting, and crocheting. There are also demonstrations of quilting, Chinese painting and cloisonné, watercolor landscapes, wire wrapping, and weaving. The Redbud Quilt Guild will be demonstrating how to make a double wedding ring quilt block.

Free performances will also be performed throughout the day, starting with the Huntingdon Dance Academy at 11 am. Picker & Papa (Jim Kerhin and Gary Brubaker) will be playing patriotic music and feel-good Americana accompanied by banjo and guitar starting at 12:15 pm. Matt Marsden and friends (Matt on mandolin, Alan Cook on banjo, and support from fiddle and percussion) will be playing bluegrass-inspired music, starting at 1:40 pm. Open Timbre (Chris and Kim Connelly, Alan Cook, Graham Curtis, Jim Ayers) will play music that blurs the boundaries of Americana, Old Time, Blue Grass, and Singer-Songwriter starting at 3 pm. The full schedule is available to view below or via pdf with this link.

Visitors will also be able to see the current gallery exhibit, Living Out Loud. Sixteen different artists have works on display in this spectacular collection of artwork, totaling 140 pieces. The Arts Center’s Art Shoppe will also be open, featuring the work of local artists available for purchase. The Huntingdon County Humane Society will be holding a bake sale, and a food truck will be on site.

The event is free. The Arts Center’s doors will open at 10 a.m., and activities will continue through 4 p.m. The Art Center is located at 313 12th Street in Huntingdon in the former 12th Street Methodist Church.
