Bead Embroidery Class

Bead Embroider a Posy Pin or Pendant Class

Here is an easy, colorful way to experience three basic embroidery stitches in another dimension, with beads.
You will pick up the beads with your needle and thread, and you will be stitching on a small piece of somewhat stiff yet flexible fabric, Pellon 70.
We will turn that fabric into wearable art, a 3” pin or pendant posy.

  • You will learn some basic descriptive terms for bead finishes, from shiny to matte to silver-lined, and perhaps a couple more.
  • You will learn to add dimension with padding.
  • You will learn backstitch, couching, seed, and edging stitches.
  • You will learn shading with beads.

The posy is stitched with size 11 round seed beads.
No previous beading experience is expected.
If you can thread a needle, the class will introduce basic techniques of bead embroidery.
If you can’t thread a needle, you will learn how.

Bring embroidery scissors, if you have them.
Something like 5” Fiskars will work fine.
The teacher will bring extra scissors and tools needed in class to share.
For the final class, small sharp embroidery scissors will be needed to trim fabric edges of Pellon and Ultrasuede.
The teacher will provide E6000 glue.

Kits will include the design drawn on fabric, additional fabric for padding, needles, Ultrasuede backing, 4# Fireline thread, pin/pendant back, a beading pad, and these beads:

Size 11 round seed beads in floral colors as pinks and reds, as well as black and pale gold for outlining, yellow green for flower center, and greens for leaves.

Classes will be on Wednesday, November 6, 13 & 20, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The total cost for the classes is $75 for members and $80 for nonmembers and includes the kit cost.

The workshop is at the Huntingdon County Arts Center (formerly the 12th Street Methodist Church) at 313 12th Street, Huntingdon.
