Revamped in Concert August 21
Category:UncategorizedRevamped with Mark and Sally Minnich, a unique husband and wife team of virtuoso violinists, will perform at the new Huntingdon County Arts Center on Sunday, August 21. This will be the fourth concert of the year in the Art Center’s recently initiated music series.
The duo’s repertoire draws on a variety of musical styles. Their upcoming performance will include traditional folk songs like “Scarborough Fair,” classical works like “Summer” from Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons,” pop songs like the Eagle’s “Hotel California,” and challenging fiddle tunes like “The Orange Blossom Special.”
As Mark said, “We love to play a huge variety of music; it helps it to stay fun for us and gives us so many options to explore. We have training in classical music, but also in many other styles like jazz, folk, and rock.”
Mark and Sally Minnich started playing together while studying music at Bowling Green State University. As Sally said, “As a music major in college, you’re really supposed to put in a lot of daily time practicing. We were good friends at the time who had just started dating each other, and so playing duets was a good excuse to practice while spending time together.”
Revamped’s shows include unexpected theatrical elements and stunts that amaze and entertain audiences. One stunt involves exchanging violins in mid-performance without missing a note. “All of our stunts are our own invention,” Sally said. “It began when I thought it would be cool to switch violins in a performance without stopping the music. Once we saw how much fun that was, we started coming up with new stunts and ideas and working out how to make them happen. It took a lot of practice!”
The musicians are looking forward to their Huntingdon show—the first time they have performed in our area. As Mark said, “It’s a lot of fun to have an enthusiastic audience, and to play with other musicians. Maybe that’s why we like performing together so much!”
Mark Minnich earned degrees in violin performance and music theory from Bowling Green State University and Penn State University. He currently is the Concertmaster of the Williamsport Symphony Orchestra and holds teaching appointments at the State College Suzuki Program, the State College Music Academy, and the Grier School. He also is President of the Penn’s Woods Music Festival in State College.
Sally Williams Minnich earned degrees in violin performance, music composition, and music education from Bowling Green State University and Penn State University. She has appeared as a soloist with The Pennsylvania Centre Orchestra, the Altoona Symphony, the Cleveland Pops Orchestra, and the Williamsport Symphony Orchestra. She currently is serving as the Director of the State College Suzuki Program.
Revamped will perform on Sunday, August 21, at 2 p.m. at the Huntingdon County Arts Center.
The Huntingdon County Arts Center (formerly the 12th Street Methodist Church) is located at the corner of 12th & Mifflin St, Huntingdon, PA.
Tickets are $12 for the general public and $10 for Arts Council members and students (with I.D.). Children under 12 are free. These can be purchased at the Huntingdon County Arts Center during exhibit hours, online at Huntingdoncountyarts.com, or at the door.
