New Mount Union Mural

Category:Updates

After years of planning, Mount Union has a new mural celebrating both its present and its heritage. The mural is on the retaining wall at Linear Park, near the railroad tracks along Pennsylvania Avenue.

Planning for the mural began in 2023, as an offshoot of the Juniata River Blueprint Community. Alisha Grove, special projects coordinator for the Center for Community Action, headed a committee to investigate, select a design and artist, and seek funding for the mural.

The Arts Council was an early contributor to the effort, and John Kearns, from the Arts Council, was part of the planning committee.

Alisha Grove said, “What began as an idea became a shared mission—thanks to the commitment of our committee, the excitement of our community, and the generosity of our local businesses and organizations, including the Arts Council. This mural belongs to all of us. Together we have created a visual landmark that unifies our community, and we can all take pride in.”

Artist Cody Stuhltrager used a polytab mural technique that printed the mural on mural cloth in sections and then attached those sections to the retaining wall.

The result is a great addition to the community.
