The Spring Thaw 2025, a juried Youth Art & Writing Exhibition, is on display. This year we received 217 entries from children all across Huntingdon County.

The exhibit is open to the public through Saturday, March 29, at the Huntingdon County Arts Center (the former 12th Street Methodist Church), at the corner of 12th and Mifflin St, Huntingdon. The Arts Center is open Tuesday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Entry Information

Calling all creative students! We invite K-12 students to submit their art and writing to the Huntingdon County Arts Council’s annual Spring Thaw, a juried Youth Art & Writing Exhibition.

Spring Thaw 2025 Rules & Information

Art Submissions: Art submission are being accepted on Monday & Tuesday, March 3 & 4, from 2 – 6 pm at
the Huntingdon County Arts Center, 313 12th Street, Huntingdon

Writing Submissions: Must be received by end of day Tuesday, March 4. Drop off at The Arts Center or mail to: HCAC, 313 12th street, Huntingdon, PA 16652, or email to [email protected]

Public Show: Open March 6 to 29, on Tuesday to Saturday from 10 am-5 pm each day

Opening Reception: Thursday, March 6, from 6 to 8 pm. Light refreshments will be served.

Pick Up: All entries must be picked up on Monday or Tuesday, March 31 & April 1, from 2 – 6 pm

Categories: 2-D, 3-D, Digital, Photography, and Writing

Entries limited to 1 per category per each person 

Grades: Pre-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12

Fees: $1 per entry      

Prizes: Cool art stuff

Rules for All Submissions: All entries must be accompanied by a Spring Thaw 2025 Entry Form.
Spring Thaw 2025 Entry Form

The top part of the entry form must be attached to each entry, and the bottom part of the entry form must be handed at the time of submission. All entries must be recent works of original design and execution by the entrant.

Visual Arts: Artwork must be ready for installation. 2-D and photography works must be mounted or framed and ready to hang with a string, wire or hook securely attached. Items may not exceed 50 lbs or 50 inches. Items that are not properly prepared for display will not be accepted. Bring entries to the Huntingdon County Arts Center, 313 12th street & Mifflin St, Huntingdon, on Monday or Tuesday, March 3 & 4, from 2 to 6 pm or by appointment (call 814-643-6220 or e-mail [email protected]).

Digital Art: Anything made via computer, tablet, ipad, phone or any electronic device.

Writing: Writing entries can be in hard copy form OR can be emailed to [email protected]. Prose entries cannot exceed 4 pages, printed one side, preferably typed and double-spaced. Poetry is limited to 40 lines. Writers must identify their work only with an attached entry form; the writer’s name must NOT appear on the writing itself. Writing submissions will be displayed during the exhibition. Send entries to HCAC, Huntingdon, PA, 16652.

All writing entries must be received by the end of day, Tuesday, March 4, 2025.

While every precaution will be taken to provide reasonable care for all submissions, the Huntingdon County Arts Council will not be responsible for works damaged while on display. Submission of items to the Spring Thaw indicates acceptance of these conditions by the submitting artist.

After six months, all unclaimed artwork will become the property of the Huntingdon County Arts Council.

Huntingdon County Arts Council
Lainey Albaugh will perform in concert at the Huntingdon County Arts Center. She is a soprano and is a senior vocal performance major at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Her recital will feature selections from both classical and musical theater repertoire, including works by Puccini, Strauss, Richard Rodgers, and Stephen Schwartz. Originally from Huntingdon, Lainey appeared in several local musicals before continuing her studies at IUP. Recent roles include Jo in Little Women and Gretel in Hansel and Gretel.Lainey will be accompanied by Cheryl Latten.
