Summer Art Camps for Kids

Does your child enjoy art? Do you want to expand your childโ€™s artistic talents?

For the third year, the Arts Council will hold a Summer Art Camp for Kids. There will be separate weekly sessions for 5 to 8-year-olds and for 9 to 12-year-olds, both from 9 to 11 am, Monday through Thursday, at the Huntingdon County Arts Center.

The cost for each weekly session is $90. A limited number of partial scholarships are available.ย 

All classes will be taught by experienced art teachers with clearances.ย 

We will have an exhibit of Summer Camp Artwork from the students from August 16 to September 7.

Summer Art Camp, Ages 5 to 8โ€‹

June 17-20: Comic Con, taught by Kelly Cunningham

Whether youโ€™re a MARVEL or DC comic fan, kids will have the opportunity to create original artwork inspired by their favorite superheroes! Turn yourself into your own comic as we explore the creative process of storyboards, illustrating pop art comics strips and making an original self-portrait worthy of a poster-size frame! We will end the week dressing as our favorite superheroes!

June 24-27: Land, Air & Sea, taught by Kelly Cunningham

From 10,000 leagues under the sea to up in the air as far as the eye can see, nature lovers and those who ponder just how life works from natural creations to man-made constructions will enjoy this weekโ€™s theme. Students will create several โ€œhands-onโ€ projects that will touch on animals, weather, modes of transportation and jobs that are found under the sea, on land and in the atmosphere!

July 8-11: Time Machine, taught by Kelly Cunningham

If youโ€™re interested in art history and the artists that paved the way over the centuries and decades, join us this week to learn all about the greatest of greats. These artists broke the rules making art as dramatically diverse as it is today. recreate your own version of some of the most famous pieces found in museums and on the streets around the world. Campers will be making abstract art, sculptures, renaissance style paintings, and have a lesson making โ€œHAPPY LITTLE TREESโ€ using a realist landscape taught Bob Ross style by Kelly.

July 15-18: Puppets, taught by Adam Swartz

Design and build your own puppets with a professional puppeteer. Explore several types of puppetry, including muppet-style hand-puppets, marionettes, shadow puppets, and more. Learn how to bring your unique creations to life with storytelling, theater, and video skills and tricks of the puppeteer trade.ย

July 22-25: Plant & Nature Themed Artwork, taught by Andrea Darby

Picking flowers, hammering plants and painting with nature! There is so much we can learn from the plants and nature around us. Use the beauty of nature to create amazing artworks using pastels, paint, pencils and more!

July 29-August 1: Zentangle & Relax!, taught by Andrea Darby

Summer can be fun and hectic but in Zentangle and Relax you will learn how to use art to calm yourself. Not only will you be calm and have fun but you will leave with some amazing artwork!

August 5-8: Kids Pop Culture, taught by Kelly Cunningham

Donโ€™t feel bad if there was a little too much screen time over the winter! Put those binge watching days to use by applying your favorite pop culture icons into art work! Campers will work in several mediums such as paint, clay and collage to honor their favorites such as Minecraft, Bluey, Star Wars, Barbie, Legoโ€™s, Wednesday, Disney and Super Mario!

June 17-20: 2D & 3D Needle Felting, taught by Kari Roslund

Dive into the world of felting, exploring how to shape wool into awesome creations. From tiny flowers to cute animals, students will learn how to bring their fuzzy friends to life in both two and three dimensions. With hands-on fun, theyโ€™ll become felting experts while unleashing their imaginations with nature-inspired crafts.

June 24-27: All About Animals, taught by Andrea Darby

From learning how to create feathers, fur and textures, to creating your own new create, this weeks โ€œAll about Animalsโ€ art camp is for you! Use all types of media including pencils, markers, paint and more!

July 8-11: Expressing Emotions Through Color, Images & Symbols, taught by Andrea Darby

Emotions come in all shapes and sizes just like art! Using color, images and symbols we are going to experiment with how to express those emotions in visual ways. Emotions are what make us who we are and together we will have fun showing off our fun and crazy emotions!

July 15-18: Itโ€™s PA Fashion Week, taught by Kelly Cunningham

Do you have a style unique to you? Find yourself in the mirror piecing together your favorite clothes or drawing fancy dress ideas? Sign up this week to feel glamorous as we delve into the fashion industry. Projects will consist of learning to draw the human figure and sketching/ adding custom pieces that are sure to catch the eye! Create collages and take home a magazine cover with you on the front in your very own designer outfit! Practice your best walk and poses as we will end the week with a fashion show!

July 22-25: Lights, Camera, Action!, taught by Kelly Cunningham

Grab your popcorn and join us for a week learning all about what it takes to make a movie! Campers will learn all about photography/videography, set design, cinematograph, and storyboards. The week will end with the premier of an old fashioned, stop motion short film. Stop motion is what used to be used before CGI took over. The film will be created by the campers! A published YouTube video will be made available so get ready to see your name in the credits!

July 29-August 1: Itโ€™s Graphically Delicious, taught by Kelly Cunningham

If this theme sounds similar to a well known slogan, then you know where weโ€™re going with this. Step into the world of graphic design, advertising and the psychology behind it all! Campers will learn to โ€œbrandโ€ themselves as well as develop a group project marketing the most popular new snacks to hit the shelves. Students will create a take-home profolio with examples of color, design and typography.

August 5-8: Creative Storytelling, taught by Grace Fala

Climb into the world of storytelling with Dr. Grace Fala through presentation and communication skills while playfully cultivating shared values. How? By telling and listening to original stories, and discovering their morals.
